Featured track: “Fringe Runner” by Fat White Family

Fat White Family‘s “Fringe Runner” is Grave Reviews’ latest featured track. Fringe Runner is built up around a cool beat, with a few tocks on a wooden guiro layered over a bunch of messy synths that just happen to work really well together. A bit of that Fat Whites magic – it feels like it shouldn’t work, but it does.

And how does the new album fare?

This song is taken from the band’s new album “Serfs Up!” – an actual critically-acclaimed (1, 2, 3, etc) album from Fat White Family, who would’ve imagined it. It seems the band have set their sights on creating music to please everyone – but at what cost? Personally, I feel that this album isn’t their strongest – I found myself drifting in and out of concentration during my first listen. Fat Whites are known to be contrarian and “out there”, but Serfs Up! feels to me like it’s missing a chunk of the band’s fucked up personality.

I’ll probably need to warm up to this album, but it does have some other good tracks too – check out “Feet”, the lead single.

“Serfs Up!” is out now on all the usual platforms.
